A Oracle Case Study
Biesse Group, a multinational designer and manufacturer of machines for processing wood, glass, stone, plastic, and metal, faced rapid international growth and needed a more powerful, reliable IT infrastructure to manage increasing data and business activity. Its goals were to boost hardware performance by at least 35%, speed and stabilize applications used by hundreds of users across design, manufacturing, sales and support, refresh infrastructure to cut costs, and deploy a robust disaster-recovery solution to ensure business continuity.
Biesse migrated to Oracle Engineered Systems — including Oracle Exadata, Oracle SuperCluster M7, SPARC T7-1 servers, Oracle ZFS storage, Oracle Solaris, RAC and Active Data Guard — with implementation support from FASTWEB. The new platform delivered a 40% hardware performance increase, faster application response and batch processing (saving the equivalent of 20 FTEs), a separate disaster-recovery datacenter with instant failover, 24/7 availability, resolved storage issues, improved scalability for future growth, and simplified single-vendor support.
