A Oracle Case Study
Berlin Hyp AG, a leading German real estate and mortgage bank in the Savings Banks Finance Group, needed to modernize an aging server landscape that could no longer meet rising storage and processing demands or support a planned upgrade to Oracle Database 12c. The bank sought higher performance, lower energy use, simpler operations for a small IT team, and improved customer-service responsiveness across about 60 business-critical applications.
Berlin Hyp replaced 10 legacy systems with four SPARC T7-2 servers running Oracle Solaris 11.3, migrating each application into separate Solaris Zones. The upgrade delivered a tenfold performance increase, cut processing and cooling energy use by at least 50%, reduced zone-creation time from one day to about one hour, and consolidated three hardware/software generations so a three-person team can manage the environment; the project finished in seven months using 80% of the budget and helped the bank secure EMAS certification for energy savings.
