Basecamp, a provider of web-based business software, faced a major challenge when an internal server-network outage left its sites down for over three hours. Given the company’s emphasis on always-on availability, this failure prompted a reassessment of how DNS was managed so they could maintain customer communication during future incidents.

Basecamp switched to Dyn Managed DNS, integrating it via Dyn’s API to automate emergency traffic redirection, free up internal resources, and publish an external status page during outages. The move provided global anycast redundancy, improved reporting and operational insight, and restored confidence in continuous availability and faster recovery from disasters.
