Bank of Valletta, Malta’s largest and systemically important bank, needed to replace a 20‑year‑old, heavily customized core to become more customer‑focused, operationally efficient and compliant amid intense local competition, fintech disruption, and rising regulatory and financial‑crime demands. To reduce risk, embrace digital channels and simplify operations, BOV launched its Core Banking Transformation (Changing the Bank Together).

BOV chose Oracle FLEXCUBE, supported by Oracle Database, API Platform Cloud Service and other Oracle financial solutions, and worked with trusted partners to execute a three‑year, big‑bang replacement. After extensive testing—1,500+ training sessions, 23 mock migrations and three go‑live simulations—the two‑day cutover finished 30 hours early with no critical defects. The modern digital core now underpins retail and corporate channels, enables SEPA/SWIFT and PSD2/Open Banking compliance, improves data quality and KYC, and gives BOV greater agility to launch services, streamline operations and enhance customer experience.
