A Oracle Case Study
Baltimore County, a large Maryland public‑sector government with about 5,000 employees, needed a more reliable, cost‑effective data infrastructure to support rapidly growing requirements and ensure high availability for mission‑critical systems (emergency dispatch, police records, licensing, finance and GIS). The county also sought to streamline IT management so staff could focus on priority projects instead of routine maintenance.
Baltimore County standardized on Oracle Database Appliance (with ASM, Active Data Guard and Partitioning) and consolidated databases from 120 to 60, cutting management overhead and TCO. Results included ~10x faster batch processing (from ~56 hours to 5–6 hours), up to 80x faster queries (300–400s to 5–6s), faster database deployment (120 to ~20 work hours), simplified centralized patching, and near‑100% availability since migration.
