AutoZone taps Oracle Cloud to find people with ‘right stuff’

AutoZone, a 41-year-old auto parts retailer with more than 6,000 stores in all 50 states plus Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Brazil, needed to hire thousands of customer-focused employees to support aggressive growth and pandemic-era service changes (online ordering, curbside pickup, next-day delivery). Its legacy HR system required heavy customization and diverted IT resources, so the company sought a modern human capital management solution to identify, onboard, manage, and develop people who fit AutoZone’s customer-first culture.

AutoZone implemented Oracle Cloud HCM—starting with talent management and expanding to core HR, payroll, absence management, and self-service—valuing its intuitive UI, built-in best practices, automatic updates, and analytics. In the first 30 days after launching recruiting, the retailer received 93,000 applications (over four times the prior year), cut average application time from 20 to 10 minutes with a responsive mobile app, automated background checks and onboarding to free managers for higher-value work, and launched a segmented careers page and cross-store applicant visibility to improve hiring for cultural fit.
