A Oracle Case Study
Aurora Public Schools, a 59-site district in Aurora, Colorado with more than 6,500 employees and a highly diverse student population, faced severe budget pressure after cumulative state funding cuts of about $200 million and a 50% reduction in budget-office staff. The district’s decentralized, Excel-based budgeting process was time-consuming and error-prone, creating delays and inconsistencies that hindered timely, accurate financial planning across schools.
Aurora implemented Oracle Hyperion Planning (with support from partner Edgewater Ranzal) and integrated it with existing student, HR, and financial systems, preserving decentralized control for roughly 75 principals while standardizing budgeting practices. The solution improved data accuracy and responsiveness to stakeholders and sped production of the legally required budget book by 10–15%, while enabling further enhancements such as planned human-capital-planning integration.
