Ajuntament de Girona Ensures Business Continuity with a Highly Available, 100-Terabyte, 150-Server Backup Center

Ajuntament de Girona, the municipal government serving about 95,000 residents, needed to guarantee continuity of critical public services—everything from municipal records and accounting to the city website and citizen-facing applications. The IT team’s challenge was to replicate the primary data center, automate backups, and provide a highly available offsite backup (located 0.5 miles away) with rapid recovery‑time and recovery‑point objectives.

Working with partner Avanttic and using Oracle GoldenGate and Oracle Database, Girona built a highly available active‑passive disaster‑recovery center with real‑time replication of more than 100 TB and a 150‑server backup environment, plus replication of 50 critical virtual servers. The solution met the city’s strict RTO/RPO targets, ensured minimal downtime for core services, and delivered a cost‑effective, reliable disaster‑recovery capability.
