AFIP Brasil Overhauls Its Technology Infrastructure, Gains Data Scalability and Security, Saves 2,000% on Hardware Costs with a Cloud Solution

AFIP Brasil is a São Paulo‑based non‑profit that funds medical research and supports clinical labs across Brazil, with more than 180 representations and data coming from roughly 192 sites. The organization needed a scalable, secure way to collect, store, and analyze medical and research data, but faced insufficient on‑premises hardware at many locations and wanted to automate storage provisioning to reduce IT maintenance overhead and ensure data accuracy and continuity.

AFIP Brasil deployed Oracle Storage Cloud Service (going live in November 2015) to provide low‑cost, enterprise‑class backup and hybrid storage tiers for 20+ years of research data, enabling PACS deployment across affiliated labs and moving applications to the cloud with minimal or no code changes. The move consolidated infrastructure, increased developer/administrator productivity, ensured regular secure backups and high availability, and delivered dramatic hardware cost savings (reported as 2,000%), strengthening the organization’s ability to carry out its mission.
