Case Study: 7-Eleven achieves 30X faster performance and robust disaster recovery with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (Exadata)

A Oracle Case Study

Preview of the 7-Eleven Case Study

7-Eleven trusts core applications and disaster recovery to Oracle Cloud and sees a 30X performance improvement

7‑Eleven, the global convenience store chain, relied on a large Oracle landscape—including Exadata—to run its Oracle E‑Business Suite and many integrated back‑end systems. The North America infrastructure team had no disaster‑recovery site for these critical applications and wanted to lower total cost of ownership, retain performance and availability, and modernize IT by moving to the cloud.

Partnering with Oracle Consulting, 7‑Eleven built a mirrored DR environment on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure using Exadata and Oracle Maximum Availability Architecture (including Active Data Guard and RAC), completing the project in under 16 weeks. Failover testing delivered immediate gains—a routine E‑Business Suite update that took ~10 minutes on‑prem finished in ~20 seconds (≈30× faster)—leading to a production migration, decommissioning of 60 on‑prem services, and continued migration of additional environments.
