Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission Becomes a Real-Time Utility with 10x-Faster Access to Business Insight

Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, a major Maryland water and wastewater utility, needed to modernize aging infrastructure, improve customer service, support growth, reduce IT complexity, and operate more sustainably. To meet these goals, WSSC turned to Oracle Exadata and other Oracle engineered systems as part of its five-year IT strategy.

Oracle Exadata helped WSSC become a real-time utility, cutting batch processing times by more than 50% and making reports 10x faster. The implementation also reduced payroll processing from three to four hours to 30 minutes, sped financial queries from 12 minutes to six seconds, lowered power use by 76%, and enabled a new mobile customer service app and stronger online billing capabilities, including more than US$81 million collected through online payments.
