SISPI Sistema Palermo Informatica S.p.A., the City of Palermo’s IT partner, needed to improve high availability and performance for 4,600 terminals across 124 municipal offices handling more than 120,000 transactions a day. Its fragmented database environment on a dozen IBM Blade servers made administration, licensing, scaling, and budget control difficult, so SISPI turned to Oracle Exadata Database Machine X4-2.

Oracle Exadata consolidated SISPI’s hardware, storage, network, and databases onto one platform, reducing 12 database servers to 4 Oracle Database instances and simplifying operations. The results included 40% faster database access, 59% faster query execution, and a tax-register process that ran 65% faster, while also eliminating downtime, lowering licensing and management effort, and helping SISPI deliver more reliable municipal services without increasing the IT budget.
