Preview of the Staatsbetrieb Sächsische Informatik Dienste Case Study

SID Drives Modernization of Saxony’s Public Services with Oracle

Staatsbetrieb Sächsische Informatik Dienste (SID), Saxony’s central IT service provider, needed to replace aging IA64-based Oracle Database infrastructure that was becoming too complex and costly to maintain while supporting growing demands for public-sector applications. Working with Oracle Exadata and Oracle Business Intelligence Suite, SID aimed to modernize its data warehouse and business intelligence environment, improve performance, and better support systems such as the FOMISAX subsidies database.

Oracle Exadata helped SID consolidate databases and analytics onto a central, highly available platform, cutting OLTP query times by 30%, reducing batch processing and backups by up to 60%, and speeding data warehouse response times by an average of 50%. Oracle Exadata also reduced downtime and maintenance effort, improved availability through Oracle Active Data Guard, and enabled SID to retire legacy systems and lower license and server maintenance costs.
