Qatar Olympic Committee Increases Database Performance up to 5x While Lowering Total Cost of Ownership by 20%

The Qatar Olympic Committee, which oversees Qatar’s sports activities and events, needed to replace aging servers and prevent downtime as its database and application demands grew. It also wanted to reduce total cost of ownership, simplify support with a single vendor, and scale smoothly for future expansion. Oracle Exadata Database Machine was selected as part of an Oracle-on-Oracle approach.

Oracle Exadata consolidated multiple Oracle Database instances onto Oracle Exadata Database Machine X3-2 HP, with Oracle Real User Experience Insight and Oracle Advanced Customer Support helping monitor users and migrate data with minimal disruption. The result was up to 5x faster database performance, including payroll processing dropping from 25 minutes to under 5 minutes, and a 20% reduction in TCO. The Qatar Olympic Committee also cut database licensing fees by 55% and support costs by 56%, while improving availability and simplifying management.
