KDDI Enhances System Performance and Supports Growth Strategy with Oracle

KDDI Corporation, a leading Japanese telecommunications provider, needed a more robust and scalable database platform to support its “3M” growth strategy for au ID authentication and payment transactions. Its legacy PostgreSQL system had to handle huge traffic from about 25 million au ID members while avoiding failures and minimizing downtime during migration.

Oracle Exadata replaced PostgreSQL as the core platform, with KDDI also using Oracle Data Guard and Oracle Enterprise Manager to improve resilience and monitoring. The new system doubled throughput from 140,000 to 250,000 queries per second, enabled zero large-scale system failures over two years, and migrated more than 25 million au ID records in just 4 hours, helping KDDI deliver more reliable service and support business growth.
