A Oracle Exadata Case Study
IRI, Information Resources, Inc., needed to scale its data infrastructure to support fast-growing analytics services for retail, consumer-goods, and healthcare customers, while also reducing IT complexity and standardizing on a single platform. Its legacy environment could not handle the required performance, concurrency, backup, and scalability demands, limiting ad-hoc analysis and increasing total cost of ownership. Oracle Exadata Database Machine was chosen to meet these needs.
With Oracle Exadata, IRI consolidated multiple databases onto one engineered system, improved performance and scalability, and enabled more than 50 internal and 1,000 external concurrent users without degradation. The solution helped IRI generate about US$5 million in additional annual revenue from new ad-hoc analytics, save about US$1 million annually through simpler IT architecture, and achieve major efficiency gains such as 7x to 8x data compression and segmentation jobs completed in hours instead of months.
