A Oracle Exadata Case Study
The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) needed a high-performance, scalable infrastructure for its stone-grading application to support global operations, avoid downtime, and handle growing query volumes without increasing costs. Replacing a legacy system, GIA turned to Oracle Exadata and Oracle Exalogic to improve performance, simplify management, and support its laboratories in North America, Mumbai, and other international locations.
Oracle Exadata helped GIA speed up record queries from about 30 minutes to 1 minute, cut inventory query time from 10 minutes to under 1 minute, and consolidate stone inventory across locations every 30 minutes instead of every 6 to 8 hours. With Oracle Exadata, GIA also reduced unplanned downtime, eliminated Java run-time errors, improved backup and statistics collection times, and streamlined IT by consolidating three database servers onto one Oracle Exadata Database Machine.
