A Oracle Exadata Case Study
The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees needed to quickly and accurately register huge numbers of asylum seekers during Germany’s 2015 refugee crisis, but its existing systems could not handle the volume and lacked central data storage or secure data sharing. To solve this, the agency worked with Oracle Exadata and Oracle Engineered Systems to build ASYL Online, a new core registration platform for capturing personal and biometrical data and issuing arrival certificates.
Oracle Exadata helped BAMF implement the system in just 40 days, integrating it into the existing IT landscape and connecting it to other government bodies. The results were substantial: registration time fell from about 60 minutes to 20 minutes, daily processing capacity tripled, and the system enabled more than 1 million refugee registrations per year while improving real-time security checks, reducing backlogs, and increasing transparency across agencies.
