Digi-Key Corporation Processes Queries 500x Faster and Completes Backups in Hours Instead of Days

Digi-Key Corporation, a fast-growing electronics-components distributor, needed an enterprise data warehouse that could keep up with expanding global business and deliver faster reporting and analytics. As its online orders, inventory, and customer base grew, Digi-Key wanted real-time intelligence to improve decision-making and maintain its high customer-service standards. Oracle Exadata helped Digi-Key build a central data warehouse for real-time and point-in-time analytics, dramatically improving performance and backup speed. Critical purchasing reports dropped from 26 minutes to 32 seconds, and one major query that once took more than an hour now runs 500x faster; overall, more than 80% of queries run up to 50x faster. Oracle Exadata also enabled backups in hours instead of days, supported 25 million to 40 million new rows per day, and gave Digi-Key the scalability needed for continued growth.
