City of Lakeland - Customer Case Study

The City of Lakeland, a Florida municipality serving more than 97,000 citizens and a large electric and water customer base, needed to improve utility billing performance, reduce batch processing time, and strengthen scalability, reliability, and IT efficiency. It evaluated multiple platforms and chose Oracle Exadata Database Machine, along with Oracle Enterprise Manager, to support critical applications and growing e-services demands.

Oracle Exadata helped the City of Lakeland consolidate eight databases onto one system, streamline web portals, and dramatically speed up operations. The city reported more than US$2.5 million in five-year infrastructure savings, US$314,418 saved from portal consolidation, electric billing runs 6x faster, batch processing cut from 5–7 hours to under 1 hour, pension processing reduced from 90 minutes to 18 minutes, and overall batch run times lowered by more than 80%.
