AmerisourceBergen, one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical sourcing and distribution companies, needed to improve the stability and scalability of its massive SAP environment while supporting 24/7 operations and reducing infrastructure footprint and costs. Its SAP data infrastructure processed more than 1 million line items a day, and a new contract would more than double throughput requirements, making performance and disaster recovery critical.

AmerisourceBergen implemented Oracle Exadata Database Machine to power its SAP applications. Oracle Exadata helped double throughput, improve SAP ECC response time from just over a second to 800 milliseconds, eliminate unplanned downtime, and speed batch jobs by 25% to 75%; it also cut storage needs by up to 60% and enabled a four-hour cutover, opening new business opportunities and lowering total cost of ownership.
