A Oracle Exadata Case Study
Aliat Universidades, a higher education group in Mexico serving more than 50,000 students and 3,500 professors across nine institutions, needed a more flexible, high-performance IT infrastructure to support diverse database servers, changing academic demands, and surges in usage. The company also wanted to reduce IT complexity and costs while improving database availability and speeding the launch of new applications for teachers and students. Oracle Exadata Database Machine was selected after IBM servers failed to meet performance expectations.
Oracle Exadata helped Aliat Universidades consolidate six databases from different servers, simplify management, and improve security and performance. Deployed with Oracle Consulting support, the solution enabled new development environments to be set up in hours instead of weeks, cut administrative report generation from up to 7 hours to 30–45 minutes, and improved collaboration for more than 900 administrative staff members. Oracle Exadata also reduced patching effort across the database chain and lowered costs tied to heterogeneous systems and standalone hardware.
