A Oracle Exadata Case Study
Abu Dhabi Distribution Company (ADDC), the Abu Dhabi utility serving more than 400,000 customers, needed to accelerate its digital transformation and improve response times for customer care and billing applications. Its legacy, heterogeneous infrastructure was causing latency, slow transaction processing, and difficulty running daytime batch jobs and reports, especially during peak service hours. ADDC worked with Oracle Exadata and Oracle engineered systems, including Oracle SuperCluster M7, to address these performance and continuity challenges.
Oracle Exadata and Oracle’s broader solution replaced multiple legacy servers and storage systems with a consolidated, scalable platform, supported by Oracle Solaris 11, Oracle Active Data Guard, Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance, and Oracle Consulting services. The result was a 2x to 10x performance boost across application processes and transactions, with key reports and batches cut dramatically—for example, the actual meter unit by rate report dropped from 8 days to 11 hours and the main billing batch from 180 minutes to 40 minutes. ADDC also reduced backup and restore times to 10 minutes and improved customer service, agility, and e-services delivery.
