A Oracle Aconex Case Study
The University of Alaska Fairbanks needed to replace its 50‑year‑old Atkinson Heat and Power Plant after cracks were found in the boilers—a $245M upgrade that was twice the size of any previous campus capital project and included a new 240,000 lb/hr boiler and turbine to heat 3 million sq ft. The project risked schedule and budget delays because teams were using FTP sites, stand‑alone systems and spreadsheets to manage a high volume of submittals, RFIs and design reviews, creating poor document control and slow, laborious review cycles.
The university implemented Aconex’s neutral, cloud‑based platform to centralize files and communications, with an online viewer, structured RFIs, drag‑and‑drop workflows and visibility into review status and due dates. The result was secure, trackable project documentation and faster collaboration—design review cycles dropped by 75% and review meetings were shortened by 30–50%, saving significant engineering time.
