Canadian Pacific Railway cuts train operating costs by a few percentage points with Optym

Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) faced the challenge of analyzing its vast and disconnected freight rail data to improve operations and reduce costs. Their databases lacked integrated analytics, making it difficult to understand current performance and identify issues. CP partnered with vendor Optym to develop a solution to these business problems.

Optym designed and deployed the Rail Business Intelligence System (RailBis), a web-based application that processes data to provide real-time responses to user queries. As a result, CP can now monitor operations, perform root cause analysis, and adjust its plans. This solution helped lower train operating costs by a few percentage points and improved on-time performance. RailBis became a standard tool for CP's Service Design department, a success achieved by vendor Optym.
