Preview of the Bristol-Myers Squibb Case Study

Use of the SF-8™ Health Survey for Rheumatoid Arthritis Screening, Awareness and Education

Bristol-Myers Squibb launched RAliving.com to raise awareness and educate patients about rheumatoid arthritis but needed a validated, brief tool and reporting capability to help visitors understand RA’s physical and emotional impact. To meet that challenge, BMS partnered with Optum360 (via QualityMetric’s SF-8™ Health Survey and the amIhealthy.com survey platform) to embed a screening and quality-of-life assessment into the site.

Optum360 provided the SF-8 survey plus real-time, printable reporting (including norm-based Physical and Mental Component Summary scores) so patients could compare their results to the U.S. population, share findings with physicians, and retake the survey to monitor progress. Optum360’s backend reporting eliminated the need for BMS to build interpretation logic; the effort has driven strong engagement — over 37,000 visitors have completed the SF-8 on RAliving.com — and BMS considers the site and Optum360’s tools a success in boosting patient awareness and self-monitoring.
