The U.S. Based Communications Company, a large employer with 128,882 pharmacy benefit members, faced rising prescription costs from maintenance medications and accelerating retail drug spending. To address this, the company worked with Optum360 (via its OptumRx® home delivery service and the Mail Service Saver Plus program) to encourage longer‑term home delivery fills and reduce reliance on retail pharmacies.
Optum360 implemented the Mail Service Saver Plus incentives, increasing home delivery penetration from 67% to 77% (retail fell from 33% to 23%), shifting 10% of members to mail order. That change produced measurable savings: $6.3 million in member savings, $14.6 million in plan savings (about $9.43 per member per month), while also improving convenience and adherence potential.
