A Optum360 Case Study
Best Buy, the world’s largest consumer electronics retailer, wanted to evolve its employee health and wellness program to fit a geographically dispersed, predominantly younger retail workforce and significantly boost engagement. To do this, Best Buy partnered with Optum360, deploying the Personal Health Support–Total Population (PHS‑TP) service to create an inbound, flexible engagement model tailored to retail employees and their families.
Optum360 implemented a targeted activation strategy—branded as Healthlink—using multi‑modal communications, onsite activations (including the Ask Anna health specialist), real‑time analytics, and member‑defined interventions to drive engagement. The program delivered measurable impact: a 32% increase in total engagements, a 56% increase in members working with a nurse or coach, 26% more chronic condition interventions, 57% more lifestyle management interventions, and a 68% improvement in medical expense savings and long‑term avoided costs (2011–2013); actively engaged members also made optimal health care decisions 64% of the time versus 56% for those not engaged.
