A Optum Case Study
United Health Services (UHS), a 916-bed not-for-profit health system in Binghamton, N.Y., needed to move from a legacy to a new billing system without disrupting daily cash flow or eroding the value of its accounts receivable amid staff and leadership changes. To manage that risk, UHS engaged Optum to perform A/R wind-down services on more than 121,000 patient accounts representing over $131 million in A/R while preparing the organization for the new billing platform.
Optum deployed scaled onsite and offsite teams, worked directly on UHS systems, and maintained clear communications to sustain daily cash flow and resolve legacy balances. The engagement closed 99% of the original 121,430 accounts and 98% of the A/R value, enabling UHS staff to focus on training and go live on schedule—resulting in a clean, timely transition supported by Optum.
