Radiology Associates of Wichita Falls, an 8-physician practice, faced the challenge of transitioning to ICD-10 compliance, which would have been prohibitively expensive with their aging system. They also sought to improve collections, decrease accounts receivable (A/R), and strengthen overall compliance. They partnered with vendor Optum (Change Healthcare) for a full suite of revenue cycle management services including coding, billing, claims management, and business analytics.

Optum implemented electronic interfaces to streamline information exchange and provided documentation education. The solution led to a 6% increase in self-pay collections, a 42% reduction in days in A/R, and an 82% reduction in charge lag. The analytics provided by Optum also helped the practice secure a substantial hospital stipend based on their productivity metrics, enabling them to hire two additional physicians.
