New pediatric and fetal echo workflows help improve patient-care delivery

North Mississippi Medical Center faced slow report turnaround, inefficient cardiology workflows, data-management gaps, and security and reimbursement challenges that were delaying diagnoses and patient care. To address this, the health system partnered with Optum and deployed Change Healthcare Cardiology™ with Echo, Cath, EP, Hemo, and ECG Solutions (as a beta site for the latest version) to replace legacy processes with a more integrated, secure cardiology platform.

Optum implemented Change Healthcare Cardiology 15.0—bringing a single-database design, HTML5 pediatric and fetal reporting, structured reporting, the “Take Me to the Image” navigation, improved templating, and multilayered security—enabling anywhere access to imaging, analysis, and reports. The upgrade delivered measurable impact: report sorting needs dropped by more than 90%, pediatric echo revisions fell 14%, fetal-echo workflows reached 100% physician adoption, and load/exit performance improved, speeding diagnoses and streamlining clinical workflows.
