A Optum Case Study
The Bellevue Hospital, a 50‑bed non-profit in Bellevue, Ohio, was relying on paper-based registration in its emergency department and main waiting areas, which left staff without visibility into who was waiting and limited auditing to about 50% of 61,000 annual registrations (and only ~10 error types). To improve front-end accuracy and monitor wait times, The Bellevue Hospital implemented Optum’s AhiQa and Ahi Lobby electronic registration and lobby-management solutions.
Optum deployed AhiQa to automate registration checks (over 260 rules) and Ahi Lobby to track patient flow, giving staff real-time visibility. The Bellevue Hospital now maintains a 99.5% registration accuracy rate with 100% audits, eliminated the FTE previously dedicated to manual auditing, reduced accounts receivable days from 51 to 43 (a 16% decrease), and cut average hospital wait times to 10 minutes and ED registration‑to‑bed time to 5 minutes (a 55% improvement).
