Bluegrass Orthopaedics COVID-19 Crisis Response

Bluegrass Orthopaedic, a multisite practice performing more than 60,000 exams annually with roughly 300 patient visits per day across Kentucky, needed a telemedicine-friendly way to receive medical images without in-person contact during the COVID-19 crisis. To replace handing off CDs and support virtual visits, Bluegrass Orthopaedic turned to Optum and its cloud-based imaging solution (Change Healthcare Stratus Imaging Share) to enable secure web uploads from patients and referring providers.

Optum implemented the Stratus Imaging Share guest uploader on Bluegrass Orthopaedic’s website, automatically pushing uploaded X‑rays and MRIs into the practice PACS and enabling clinicians to view images during telemedicine visits. The quick, one-week rollout eliminated the risk and effort of handling about 120 discs per day, streamlined image access from any web-enabled device, improved clinician workflow, and helped keep patients safely at home while preserving continuity of care.
