A Optum Case Study
Calvert Memorial Hospital, a 125‑bed community hospital in Prince Frederick, Md., faced rising accounts receivable (A/R) days (about 47), a low initial claims pass rate (~65%), and labor‑intensive manual claim processes that limited upfront collections. To address these challenges the hospital implemented Optum’s registration and flow solutions, AhiQa for registration data quality assurance and Ahi Lobby for patient flow and point‑of‑service collections.
Optum implemented AhiQa first in batch and then in real‑time to verify registrations and clean claims up front, and deployed Ahi Lobby alongside centralized scheduling to monitor wait times and collect co‑pays. The results: A/R days fell from 47 to 38 (net A/R 34), claim pass rates improved to about 95%, two FTEs were redeployed to financial counseling, and upfront collections rose by roughly 5 percentage points — about $25,000 more per month.
