A Optum Case Study
HealthFocus, supporting foster and adoption services for a Northeastern state’s child welfare department, was hampered by an unsupported, out-of-compliance legacy application that lacked data encryption and risked disrupting enrollment and foster-care placements. To modernize and secure their workflows, the state engaged vendor Optum to replace the legacy system.
Optum deployed the cloud-based HealthFocus solution in two months, leveraging the state enterprise data warehouse to provide HIPAA-compliant, encrypted access to claims, eligibility, demographic and diagnosis data (including up to 84 months of claims). The Optum/HealthFocus deployment streamlined provider and medication verification, improved continuity of care for children, and now supports nurses in two units (about 12 in the Child and Family Nurse Program and roughly 100 in the Child Health Unit), delivering a cost-effective, scalable platform that can be quickly augmented for additional capabilities.
