Groupon Goods - Customer Case Study

Groupon Goods partnered with Optoro in 2014 to address high volumes of returned and excess inventory that had been sent to liquidators. Using Optoro’s returns management system (RMS) to manage reverse logistics in-house, Groupon sought to reduce waste, transportation inefficiencies, and the environmental impact of its return flows.

Optoro applied Groupon’s shipment data to its environmental model and implemented RMS-driven routing and resale workflows. The results: waste fell 60% (from 226,878 lbs to 91,254 lbs, a 68‑ton reduction), CO2 emissions dropped 27% (547,776 kg to 397,594 kg), and fuel use declined (18,161 gallons saved, ~357,844 miles equivalent) with transportation efficiencies of about 30%. More goods reached consumers—units rose from 181,556 to 209,597 (over a 15% increase) and 91% of returned/excess inventory was resold. Optoro’s solution reduced reliance on liquidators, lowering damage, obsolescence, waste and emissions.
