HR Software Company Overhauls Secrets Management Program with Optiv’s HashiCorp Vault Services

HR Software Company, a global payroll provider serving 36 million workers and more than 500,000 organizations, was struggling with sprawling secrets and dynamic identities across its technology ecosystem. Multiple overlapping third-party and home-grown secrets management tools created security risk, compliance gaps, audit findings, and operational inefficiencies. Optiv was brought in to help consolidate and strengthen the company’s secrets management program using HashiCorp Vault services.

Optiv implemented HashiCorp Vault through an automated Jenkins CI/CD pipeline, along with clustered Vault architecture, Kubernetes authentication, and multi-tenancy support to manage access across teams. The solution centralized secrets management, retired ineffective and audit-failed tools, improved visibility and governance, and streamlined authentication processes. While the case study does not provide hard numbers, Optiv’s work reduced costs and enterprise risk while improving security posture, resiliency, and productivity.
