Massachusetts Church Uses Route Optimization Software to Increase Pick-Ups During Annual Fundraiser

Carter Memorial United Methodist Church runs a large annual Christmas tree collection fundraiser that had been planned by phone, paper maps, and spreadsheets—a process that once took up to 12 hours and led to coordination problems and missed pick-ups. Seeking a seasonal, cost-effective routing solution, the church evaluated options and adopted OptimoRoute (using its cloud-based route optimization and mobile app) to handle volunteer variability, rapid schedule changes, and the short, intense operating window.

By using OptimoRoute’s optimization and Dynamic Replanning features, volunteer planner Joe cut route planning from about 12 hours to roughly 15 minutes, easily pushed optimized routes to drivers’ smartphones, and moved orders between trucks on the fly (shifting 20 pick-ups in one busy week). The church collected roughly 760–800 trees over three Saturdays with up to six trucks, reduced missed pick-ups, and raised $19,862 for local charities—part of more than $80,000 distributed over recent years.
