The customer, TELEMAX, a developer of fare collection systems, required a compact and reliable QR code scanner to integrate into its existing passenger console unit for automated paper ticket validation. The challenge was to find a solution that was small, dust-proof, could read codes from both paper and mobile phones, and was more cost-effective than their previous, overly complex custom device. They turned to vendor Opticon for its MDI-4100 scanner.
Opticon's MDI-4100 provided the high performance and compact size needed. TELEMAX engineered a solution by housing the scanner in a modified, proven enclosure, using a mirror to achieve a wide viewing angle and developing an auxiliary light to prevent reflections. By integrating the MDI-4100 and reusing existing parts, Opticon's solution enabled TELEMAX to create a cost-effective, fast, and reliable new ticketing technology that could be affordably deployed to its customer base.
