University of Cape Town Shuttle Digitalizes Operations with Optibus, Resulting in Faster Work Speeds

UCT Shuttle, the University of Cape Town’s private campus bus service, needed a better way to manage its manual planning and scheduling processes. With a fleet of 27 buses serving 29,000 students and 5,000 staff across 19 routes, the team struggled with tedious paper-based workflows that were slow and prone to human error. Working in consultation with GoMetro, UCT Shuttle adopted Optibus’ cloud-native, AI-powered Transportation Management Software.

Optibus helped UCT Shuttle digitize timetables, streamline planning, and support GTFS creation for real-time fleet management and rider information tools. The result was much faster timetable updates: changes that previously took around a month could now be completed in a few hours over a week. UCT Shuttle also reported better organization, more efficient operations, and an easy onboarding experience with Optibus.
