How Urbi Uses Optibus to Build Better Timetables and Schedules in Half the Time

Urbi Mobilidade Urbana, a public transportation operator in Brasília with 162 routes, 429 vehicles, 773 drivers and 2,907 trips, needed to cut kilometers, optimize resources during the COVID-19 pandemic, and win government approval for a new timetable while avoiding severe route bunching (up to 65% overlap). To address long, manual planning cycles and synchronization challenges, Urbi began using Optibus’ Planning and Scheduling modules in mid‑2020.

Optibus delivered corridor planning, scheduling and customizable preference tools that let Urbi visualize routes, validate union rules, and generate multiple scenarios quickly. As a result, Urbi cut timetable and schedule build time from about three months to less than half that time, reduced the number of trips and service mileage on its two main corridors while maintaining service quality, and improved compliance, punctuality and passenger wait times; Optibus’ map view also sped government approval. Urbi is now extending Optibus use into roster optimization and other planned features.
