How Stagecoach East brings e-buses to Cambridge using Optibus

Stagecoach East, the Cambridge, UK operator, set out to electrify its Park and Ride network and deploy 30 e-buses while maintaining service quality. The challenge was planning around a depot that could fit fewer electric vehicles than diesel buses, only 15 available charging points, and the need to coordinate charging around on-site engineer availability. Stagecoach East used Optibus Planning and Scheduling software, including its EV Management solution, to manage the transition.

Optibus helped Stagecoach East build and optimize complex electric vehicle schedules, create workable charging blocks, and explore scenarios as the fleet expanded. The result was a fully electric Park and Ride network with optimized service quality despite a 33% smaller fleet, plus simpler charging operations and lower maintenance costs. Measurably, the project cuts about 4,565 kg of CO2 every week.
