How Arriva UK improved reliability and frequency using Optibus

Arriva UK, one of the UK’s largest public transport operators, needed to redesign its bus network in High Wycombe to improve service frequency, timetables, and overall network performance. The company used Optibus Planning and Scheduling to help analyze demand, running times, and travel patterns so it could create a more efficient and customer-friendly network.

Using Optibus, Arriva reworked the network into a hub-and-spoke model with pulse scheduling, launched in September 2023. The new design doubled frequencies on most routes, simplified timetables, improved connections, reduced passenger wait times, and extended some evening services, while also giving Arriva greater flexibility in bus and driver resource planning.
