Golden Empire Transit District (GET Bus), the Bakersfield public transit agency, had been running the same schedules since around 2012 and found that updating schedules, runcutting, and rostering had become too slow and complex with its existing tools. To better respond to service changes during COVID-19 and improve operations and passenger service, GET Bus chose Optibus mass transit software.
Using Optibus, GET Bus can model many service scenarios quickly, make minute changes almost instantly, and optimize work more efficiently with cloud-based SaaS technology. The agency expects to create efficiencies, support future re-bids, and lower costs while improving service, with opportunities to explore interlining and headway-based timetables; no specific numeric impact was provided, but the case study says Optibus will help GET Bus serve passengers better at a lower cost.
