Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) faced the challenge of reducing its substantial supply chain emissions, which accounted for nearly 25% of its global carbon footprint, as part of its net-zero by 2040 goal. A key objective was to encourage 80% of its suppliers by spend to set their own science-based targets by 2030. To address this, HPE partnered with the vendor Optera.

Optera's Supply Chain Manager platform enabled HPE to set up 80% of its manufacturing suppliers on the software. This allowed suppliers to access their emissions data, visualize reduction targets, and track progress. The solution centralized Scope 3 reporting and transformed HPE's approach from one-sided analysis to collaborative engagement, helping to build stronger relationships with supply chain partners. Optera's platform was instrumental in tracking a significant majority of suppliers' emissions and facilitating direct communication for improvement.
