Hawaii State Digital Archives - Customer Case Study

Hawaii State Digital Archives, charged with collecting and permanently preserving state government records, needed to ensure that the wide variety of files submitted from external agencies were free of malware before being added to its archival repository. To meet this challenge, Hawaii State Digital Archives selected OPSWAT’s Metascan (now Metadefender Core) to analyze and validate incoming files from outside the archives’ trusted network.

OPSWAT deployed Metascan 4 to multi‑scan all incoming and stored files against five anti‑malware engines, perform hash lookups (SHA256, SHA1, MD5) for previously scanned files, and auto‑update engine signatures, with scheduled scans to detect later alterations. The solution increased assurance that archived files remain malware‑free and unaltered, reduced administrator overhead, and helped preserve the integrity and trustworthiness of Hawaii State Digital Archives’ records for future generations.
