GM Europe Secures Its Supply Chain With “Genuine GM Parts”

GM Europe, part of GM, faced the challenge of authenticating up to 100 million aftermarket parts annually across more than 40 European markets and a vast supplier network to prevent counterfeit infiltration and give field personnel quick, easy verification. To meet this need GM engaged OpSec Security to develop a brand protection program and anti‑counterfeiting solution for its replacement parts.

OpSec Security created a serialized security label that combines an Optically Variable Device (OVD) with covert/overt features, unique serial numbers recorded in a secure online database, and a secure web portal for ordering and tracking; suppliers apply labels to shipments and quantities are reconciled against orders. The program now covers over 95% of GM Europe’s suppliers, GM reports no counterfeits found carrying a genuine label, the tracking delivers greater supply‑chain visibility, and OpSec estimates about €500K saved in label production over five years.
