NHS Business Services Authority reclaims 270 square metres with OPEX

The NHS Business Services Authority, in collaboration with a family medical practice, faced the challenge of managing a vast backlog of historical patient records stored in Lloyd George envelopes. The paper files occupied 270 square metres of valuable clinical space and were difficult to retrieve quickly for patient appointments. To digitize these documents and free up space, they turned to vendor OPEX Corporation and utilized the OPEX Falcon scanning platform.

OPEX implemented a solution using the Falcon scanner, which allowed a single operator to efficiently process the varied documents. The system converted the unstructured paper files into structured digital content, complete with images and metadata for easy upload to electronic patient record systems. As a result, the project successfully digitized 12,300 patient records, reclaimed the 270 square metres of space for clinical use, and provided GPs with instant access to complete patient information.
