How a Custom Report Saves Time and Environmental Resources, Too

Sustainable Quality Awards (SQAs), a Santa Monica program recognizing business sustainability, faced a time‑consuming paper‑based final judging round: staff spent hours cutting and pasting judges’ scores and comments into a presentable “Judges Report.” SQAs selected OpenWater (using the OpenWater Awards digital awards platform) to manage all four award categories but asked OpenWater to build a custom report template to compile specific mixes of comments, scores, and averages while retaining consistent, printable formatting.

OpenWater developed a custom report framework—working from wireframes to an automated pipeline that pulls program data and produces formatted HTML/PDF reports—so judges’ summaries are generated with a single click. The OpenWater solution eliminated the manual cut‑and‑paste work, improved readability for judges, and, by using a narrow sans‑serif layout, reduced ink and paper per printout, delivering measurable time savings and lower environmental resource use.
