With approximately 70,000 student accounts and 7,000 staff accounts across dozens of different administrative and academic systems, the University of Westminster faced a major challenge in delivering fast and effective user management at low cost

The University of Westminster needed a better way to manage user identities across a large and fast-changing IT environment. Using OpenText NetIQ Identity Manager, the university aimed to unify its OpenText NetIQ eDirectory and Microsoft Active Directory instances, standardize logins, and reduce the heavy paperwork and manual effort tied to user management.

OpenText implemented NetIQ Identity Manager to synchronize identity data across directories, create a single master identity per user, and automate account provisioning and deprovisioning across internal and external systems. The result was faster, more accurate user setup, lower support costs, and shared credentials across systems without reducing security. The university also reported being able to provision up to 10,000 accounts in a single weekend, with major time and cost savings.
